I've really loved that hashtag this mother's day because it reminds us of all those countless times that it was mom to our rescue, it was mom that we needed, it was mom who made us smile again, it was mom that made it all worth while, it was mom that inspired us, and it was mom we couldn't wait to tell the good news.
The hashtag simply reminds us that it was mom.
My uncle posted a link to a video of "it was mom" that I wanted to share with anyone else who hasn't watched it.
Here is my resolution to be a better mom,
to be their superhero,
the elf who washes and folds their clothes when they sleep,
the arms that keep them safe from imaginary things in the dark,
the captive audience for all their performances (rehearsed and impromptu),
the teacher who gives them their bearings for their moral compass,
the nurse who washes their scraped knees,
the cheerleader from the sidelines,
their trustworthy confidante,
and the one who will help them to fly and leave the nest when their wings are ready.
Being a mother means sacrifice. You sacrifice yourself for the beauty of understated actions, the simplicity of putting family first, and the shaping of a child, then a person and eventually a nation. What important work we have! I am so grateful for my two lovely children and that I could be a mother. I don't think I truly knew myself until I had to make choices about the person my children would know as their mother.
Happy Mother's Day!!
