Animal videos are the best. I read a meme the other day that pointed out how amazing technology is these days. The gist is that if we were to meet a famous historical person, their minds would be blown by our pocket-size smartphones that can access all the information that man has discovered over the millennia in mere seconds. And then we would explain to that person that we use it to anonymously pick fights with people on social media and watch animal videos. Totally guilty of the latter. (But not the former.)
So the video above is of the dog we adopted, Demeter. I wrote in a post that she was a menace and then later I explained how she routinely snacked on my guineas and chickens. It got worse and her neurotic behavior was ruining our quality of life. She needed the attention I would give a child but with two young children and another on the way, I didn't have that time and energy to give her. It is with no small degree of shame and guilt that I admit we took her to a shelter after our months-long efforts at trying to find her a home failed. She taught us a lot and I have many distinct memories of her, some funny and some quite terrible.
In the video above, she was playing one of her favorite games. She could just never leave cat tails alone. Sometimes she would drag the cat from the barn all the way to the house! Butterscotch was such an amazing cat because she still tolerated Demeter despite that torture. Butterscotch is also gone now. She was hit by a car in the road and we were heartbroken. I love that I have this video to remember the happy times they gave us.
This next video is of our fabulous Phoebe when we first got her.
Because we couldn't get enough of her cuteness, we made her do it again.
To be fair, my children's violin playing is atrocious in these videos and almost made me cry too. Sorry to subject you to that!
Butterscotch got her revenge eventually by going after Phoebe's tail. Of course Phoebe was the blameless victim here but try explaining that to a cat. I had hung out in my car responding to emails so I got to see this sneakiness.
Animal videos are the best, just right beneath baby videos. Don't worry; I have more. They're not as entertaining with the animal and children antics but still have some cute farm animals.
